MARY CAIRNCROSS SCENIC RESERVE - INTERIORS

The Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve Discovery Centre is an iconic tourism and educational destination in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, offering panoramic views of the Glass House Mountains and rainforest reserve.

Appointed by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council to design the interior of the Discovery Centre, Guymer Bailey Interiors used filtered light, large glazed walls and semi-enclosed outdoor spaces to create an uninterrupted rainforest experience for visitors. The minimal palette of browns and greens was inspired by the rainforest and used to bring focus to the surrounding natural environment. Timber and locally sourced Glasshouse blue stone were also used to enhance contextual intimacy, passively stabilise internal temperatures, and reduce environmental impact.

To immerse visitors in the rich biodiversity and living heritage significance of the area, interactive displays were placed throughout the Centre to tell the story of the reserve and its inhabitants, and the tall atrium draws eyes towards the treetops.
